Once upon a time...
Marian Rutkowski, the mother of two young children, would begin the exhausting search for the "perfect" preschool. Unable to find a center that matched her personal philosophy and standards, she began designing her own preschool to offer children a safe, fun, and healthy environment to develop their skills in learning, socializing, and independence.
With the help of her family, she created a one-room schoolhouse in the backyard of their modest downtown bungalow. A combination of her fascination with learning, with the warmth and love of a home, "Miss Marian" opened the doors of Discovery Days Preschool in 1992 with a class of six children (two of which were her own.) Almost thirty years later, her daughter "Miss Amber" sitting center in the picture below, is now a part of the staff of Discovery Days!
The program grew quickly from 6 children in 1992 to over 30 in 1996. Discovery Days would stay in the backyard of Miss Marian's home for the next four years, until the purchase of a historic neighborhood property. The land was in deep neglect, but after a enormous group effort the "big" Discovery Days Preschool relocated to its current home in 1997.
Discovery Days Preschool is unique in an industry exemplified by large, impersonal centers, offering each family an engaging experience of childhood learning. We are privileged to be a part of this fleeting and special stage of life with our families, honoring our heritage of Miss Marian's courage to manifest a life-long dream.
